Visiting my lock-up earlier this week, and noticed that I'm running out of space… therefore, I've decided to reduce the cost of a three titles which really must be read, and this in addition affects the bundled prices in the Special Offer pages (so even more savings):
Feral Companions can now be yours for the low price of £9.99 – that's a signed, limited PPC hardback from Simon Maginn and Gary Fry!
New Writings in the Fantastic edited by John Grant, a huge paperback anthology of sf, fantasy and horror, and yours for £7.99 – 400 pages!
We Fade to Grey edited by Gary McMahon, the limited PPC hardcover signed by all contributors, and yours for £9.99!
Do I need to say any more? Well, apart from the fact that I need to make room and to do that you need to give up some of your shelf space… go on…

Chapbooks ago-go

You may have noticed that I have uploaded the new cover image for Simon Bestwick's new chapbook – well, it is finally about to go to print, and the same designer (Neil Williams who did such stunning work on Gary McMahon's chapbook "What they hear in the dark" for Spectral Press) is also working on Toiya Kristen Finlay's The Legend of False Dreaming.
If this is the standard of work, then I foresee a string a books with a Neil Williams' credit.
Again, you can pre-order this for just £3… or, if you'd like to order a copy of the limited hardback of We Fade to Grey (which features Simon's Ellen Datlow-selected story "The Narrows") then you will receive a copy gratis!
In addition, anyone who orders a copy of New Writings in the Fantastic, will also receive a free copy of Toiya Kristen Finlay's chapbook.

FantasyCon

With a little over two weeks before the weekend that is FantasyCon, I thought it would be wise to notify you all that on the Saturday afternoon, in the "little bar adjacent to the dealer's room", there will be the official launch event for We Fade to Grey.
Copies of both the hardback and paperback edition will be on sale, and there will also be an open bar (a finite amount of cash will be set aside, so be quick…) The authors will be on hand to sign your paperback copy (the hardback having been previously signed and numbered by all) and somehow we'll fill the forty-five minute slot…
Also, Mr John Grant will also be in attendance on the weekend, hopefully to pick up the Best Anthology gong for New Writings in the Fantastic – fingers crossed.
In addition, I've produced a small but perfectly formed chapbook of three stories especially for the Convention that features a novelette by Paul Finch and Brian Finch, along with two tales from Stuart Young and Gary McMahon. Strictly limited to 50 lucky convention goers finding a copy in their goodie bag.
Anyway, that's it for now.

From now until actual voting finishes in the BFS Awards, you can download gratis special PDF editions of both New Writings in the Fantastic and Dalton Quayle Rides Out.
Of course, you can buy the books too.
(In fact, as an aside, how many of you reading this/visiting this site like the idea of eBook editions of future/past titles?)

Award Nominations

Recently announced: we've bagged four nominations for Best Anthology (New Writings in the Fantastic), Best Short Story (Kate Riedell's Song Cycle, from NW) Best Novella (Paul Kane's Dalton Quayle Rides Out) and Best Small Press.
If any member of the BFS reading this would like a gratis PDF copy of either or both books, then write to me and I shall send them a copy by return.
The winners will be announced at the annual FantasyCon do in September.
EDIT: It has actually come to my attention that there are in fact two nominations within the short fiction category – the other is Paul Pinn's Borderline Charm (also from New Writings in the Fantastic).

Just a quick message to say that I shall be in York tomorrow for the British Fantasy Open Night – imbibing a few beers, and listening intently to a few well-told ghost stories (and not falling asleep, hopefully.)
Also, a new review has surfaced for New Writings in the Fantastic.
In other news, The Reef has been booked into the printer's schedule… woo-hoo; juust need to pay for it now.

A nod or two…

Call it blinkered, but it's only just come to my attention that Lee Harris, editor/publisher of the online 'zine Hub has produced an inaugural list of The Hub Awards for last year (though I subscribe to said 'zine, I obviously don't read each issue immediately.)
Anyway, in #39, Harris tips a wink for Gary McMahon's Rough Cut in the Best Novel category (though the ultimate winner is Sarah Pinborough's Breeding Ground, which it must be said is a very entertaining read; a gruesome horror tale, in the vein of James Herbert but also John Wyndham).
The main winner, though, is John Grant's New Writings in the Fantastic for Best Collection (Multi-Author) and who am I too disagree with the comment, "over 40 stories, and not a filler to be seen."
Why not spend some of that last minute Paypal cash before the credit card bill comes crashing through the door?

Back on an even keel…

Hope everyone had a pleasant New Year and the festivities? Here's too 2008, eh?
Anyway, normality is sort of returning to PP towers…
Received the signed bookplates for No-Man and Other Tales, with the pre-orders despatched – yours should be with you in a day or so. Thanks for your patience.
The Reef is about to be proofed ready for printing, and I've just started working on Triquorum III which I hope to bring out at Eastercon along with the above novel. Talking of Triquorum, a new review just appeared over at SF Crowsnest for the first instalment – praising in particular John Grant's tale.
Oh, and a couple of high-profile reviews surfaced for New Writings in the Fantastic: both above-average write-ups in the newsstand magazines SFX and Death Ray.
Why not buy a copy to find out for yourself – that is, a copy of the book (though I'm sure the magazines would also like your cash).
Anyway, that's it for now…

New Writings… another new review

In the current issue of Death Ray magazine, with an indepth appraisal of each individual story: some good, some excellent, some not-so.
Why not buy a copy and make up your own mind?
In addition to this, I've decided to say yes and publish New Writings in the Fantastic II (edited by David Hutchison). Table of contents to be finalised, but projected publication: mid-2009.
